Comfort, Courage & Care: Glo Staff Bring Smiles to LUTH’s Paediatric Oncology Ward.

What happens when compassion meets action?

On June 27, 2025, a heartfelt idea sparked by a Glo staff member bloomed into a moment of hope and humanity. Through the Glo Staff CSR Initiative, a team of employees paid a special visit to the Alima Atta Paediatric Oncology Ward at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital(LUTH), delivering care boxes to young cancer patients and leaving with hearts forever changed.

It All Began with Nkem’s Story

When the Glo Foundation invited staff to submit ideas for the new CSR programme, Nkem Okwute, a cancer survivor herself, shared a project close to her heart assembling and donating comfort boxes for children undergoing cancer treatment. Her vision was not just to give, but to show what survival looks like. And when the Glo team embraced the idea, it became the first-ever staff-led outreach of the Foundation’s CSR initiative.

A Day to Remember at LUTH

Walking into the oncology ward, the Glo team was greeted not just by children and caregivers, but by stories of strength, perseverance, and quiet bravery. As each box filled with warm socks, storybooks, soft blankets, snacks, toys, wipes, and other thoughtful essentials was handed over, it offered more than comfort; it delivered a message: You are seen. You are not alone.
Medical personnel and families opened up about the realities of paediatric cancer care long hours, emotional tolls, small victories. It was a humbling exchange that left the team inspired and deeply moved.

“This is What Hope Looks Like”

“It’s encouraging to see someone become a beacon of hope, showing that a cancer diagnosis isn’t the end,”
— Titi Tade, Director of Medical Social Services, LUTH

Titi’s words echoed the sentiment of the day. With early diagnosis and the right treatment, recovery is possible. And thanks to staff-led initiatives like this one, families battling cancer don’t have to feel isolated in the journey.

More Than Just a Visit

As the visit wrapped up, one thing became clear: the most powerful impact often begins with a single idea, followed by the courage to act on it. The care boxes were just the beginning. This outreach has set a powerful tone for future initiatives driven by empathy, led by staff, and grounded in the belief that even the smallest act of kindness can ripple far beyond the moment.
