Glo Foundation’s Maternal Outreach Brings Hope to Akure Hospital

On Friday, August 15, 2025, the 2nd edition of the Glo Staff CSR Outreach, powered by Glo Foundation, took place at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure. The initiative, inspired by the idea of Globacom staff member Omoniyi Ogundare, was dedicated to supporting women who had just gone through childbirth.

Support at the Point of Need
Over a four-day period leading up to the visit, the Foundation partnered with hospital staff to cover the full delivery costs of women in active labour. Each mother also received a maternity delivery kit stocked with essential medical items like gloves, mats, injections, and sanitary consumables, ensuring safe and dignified births even in resource-limited conditions.

A Return Visit to the Ward
On August 15, the Glo Foundation team returned to the maternity ward to meet the new mothers, this time with postnatal support. Mothers were presented with bags of diapers and other essentials for their babies. For many, the visit itself was an unexpected gesture of care. One grandmother, overwhelmed with gratitude, embraced a Glo Foundation representative, thankful for the support her daughter had received during childbirth.

Warmly Received by Hospital Leadership
The outreach was acknowledged with deep appreciation by the hospital’s leadership. Among those present were Dr. Ayodele Adiji, Permanent Secretary of the State Health Management Board, Dr. (Mrs.) Patricia Eniowo, Chief Medical Director, and Mrs. Akintomide Tomike, Head of Nursing Services, alongside midwives and nurses. Walking the ward together, they witnessed firsthand the relief and gratitude of the mothers.

Standing Beside Women at Life’s Defining Moments
For the mothers’ support, the impact went far beyond hospital walls. Their children were welcomed into the world free from the weight of unpaid bills, and their recovery was eased by care packs designed for their needs. The Glo Foundation remains grateful to its staff, hospital partners, and healthcare workers who made this outreach possible. It was a simple act of standing beside women at a defining moment of their lives, reminding them that their stories matter, and that their journey into motherhood deserves dignity, safety, and hope.
